Waves already qualifying for provincial meets

By Medicine Hat News on October 23, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Waves won zero medals at their first swim meet of the season.

That’s because the LASC Fall Challenge in Lethbridge only gave out ribbons.

Both Johnathan Marshall and Karsten Senft were focused on bigger things than individual race results, earning spots at provincials in March thanks to their times. Marshall made four time standards for his 13-under age group, while Senft made one for the 14-15 range.

Likewise, the 11-under trio of Kage Senft, Kaden Goffinet and William Miller made time standards to attend the Alberta Winter Festival in January.

Marshall, 12, was on the podium in the 50 metre breaststroke with a third-place finish. Fourteen-year-old Karsten Senft was third in his 200 free.

Kage Senft, 11, won the 200 freestyle, was second in his 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and was third in 100 free, 100 individual medley and 50 back.

Other Waves to crack the top-three in races included 11-year-old Rowynn Biffart (second in her 50 free, third in both 50 breast and fly), and fellow 11-year-old Keira Leclair (third in 100 breast).

Twenty Waves were at the competition in all.
