Kickboxers do well at event in Airdrie

Southern Alberta Combative Arts kickboxers were in Airdrie over the weekend, with a trio of young athletes earning medals as they get set for their own home tournament.

Jesse Sandberg won his bout, with SACA coach Jamie Droeske noting “he had great control and had a good technical fight.”

Mercedes Chichenko earned silver against a taller opponent, getting better from one round to the next according to her coach and never backing down.

Diesel Van Ham also took second place in his division, exhibiting “great control” according to Droeske and doing well against a tough fighter.

SACA is hosting its own continuous tournament this Saturday at its gym beside Top Hat Bingo. Action gets underway at 12:30 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
