Hitmen come back to top Tigers

By Medicine Hat News on October 21, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Tigers let a three-goal lead slip away on Sunday afternoon at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Cole Sillinger struck for a goal then set up two power play tallies by linemate Ryan Chyzowski to give the Tabbies a commanding early lead in the first period, but the Calgary Hitmen rebounded for six unanswered goals to end Medicine Hat’s four-game winning streak with a 6-3 comeback.

Jackson van de Leest started up Calgary’s comeback in the final minute of the first period. Carson Focht then cut the lead down to one midway through the second before Mark Kastelic tied things up two minutes later.

The Hitmen kept coming in the third, with Kastelic stealing away the lead before Riley Stotts struck for a pair of insurance markers to end Hat netminder Mads Søgaard’s night on 36 saves.

Garin Bjorklund stopped four in relief.

Hitmen goaltender Brayden Peters collected the 26-save win after entering in relief of Jack McNaughton eight minutes into the game. McNaughton allowed three goals on nine shots.

The loss leaves Medicine Hat at 8-3-1-0. Calgary improved to 6-2-1-0.

The Tigers are back on the ice Friday in Edmonton against the Oil Kings (8-1-3-0).
