Cubs earn points in pair of games

By Medicine Hat News on October 15, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Cubs earned three points from their long weekend, and maybe some respect from one of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League’s top squads.

At Cochrane Saturday, the Cubs forced overtime before falling 3-2. The Generals got the winner off the stick of Ryan Davis 2:54 into the extra time.

Scott Shugg had both of the home team’s goals in regulation, while Levi Schlosser and Grant Forbes replied for Medicine Hat. Shots were an even 33-all. Dawsen Savage made 30 saves in the Cubs net.

Back home at the Kinplex Sunday, the Cubs ran roughshod over the visiting Rocky Rams in a 7-1 decision. Tavin Stadnicki had two goals while Noah Irvine, Mackenzie Fritzler and Jamal Kalaf each had a goal and an assist. Ethan Machan and Fletcher Aleman had the other Cubs goals. Brett Vanderveer made 29 saves for the win in net.

The 3-2-1 Cubs play their next six games at home, including this weekend against Sylvan Lake (Saturday, 7:45 p.m. and Ponoka (Sunday, 2:15 p.m.). Cochrane is now 6-4, second in the Southern Division while Rocky fell to 1-6, last in the north.
