Young black belt among medallists in Montreal event

By Medicine Hat News on October 12, 2019.

She’s among the youngest black belts around, and last weekend Jade Hirsche backed up her quick ascent in martial arts with results at an international competition.

Hirsche, 10, paired up with fellow Fire Dragon Taekwondo member Carter Prince to earn gold for their team poomsae (forms) last Friday in Montreal.

Both Hirsche and Prince became black belts this year, getting their certificates last month.

At the Canada Open, which featured more than 1,000 athletes from 51 countries, Fire Dragon’s team had an excellent showing. Hirsche and Prince later earned separate bronze medals – Hirsche got hers in individual poomsae, while Prince was third in his sparring division.

Fire Dragon senior instructor and high performance coach Annie An took silver in her individual poomsae as well.
