There was good news for both Pietro de Andrade and Jared Kilkenny this week.

De Andrade, the ex-Rattlers college basketball player, improved to 6-0 in his kickboxing career with a unanimous decision over Winnipeg’s Alexis Findlay Friday.

Moreover, he added a title belt to his closet.

The big Brazilian said he came close to a knockout, but Findlay held on to force a look at the scorecards in the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations championship match.

“Good fight,” wrote de Andrade in a message to the News. “Very strong opponent.

“Extremely strong but couldn’t beat my heart.”

Fighting out of Southern Alberta Combative Arts, de Andrade started training with MMA fighter Jared Kilkenny in the leadup to Friday’s bout. Kilkenny moved to Medicine Hat from Lethbridge a year ago and had his own fight, and both men being heavyweights measuring over 6-foot-5 were obvious compliments.

Kilkenny didn’t win his rematch with Christian Larsen at Unified MMA 38 Sept. 27, losing by knockout 1:10 into the first round of the title bout. But on Sunday he announced he’s going be part of the F45 fitness centre in the Gas City which is set to open this fall.
