The theme was pink but the result was gold for the girls in blue.

Crescent Heights’ varsity girls volleyball team won their home tournament this past weekend, clinching top spot Saturday night with a 2-0 (25-9, 25-22) win over the Brooks Buffaloes.

Equally as important, they raised money and awareness for cancer research by making the weekend pink-themed, which is the traditional ribbon colour associated with breast cancer.

Coach Scott Galloway reported in a press release that “we were able to raise several hundred dollars for cancer research through donations at the door and the added efforts of the CHHS athletes… prior to this weekend.”

After a narrow three-set win over Raymond Friday (25-22, 21-25, 15-8), the host side had little trouble with Foremost in Saturday morning’s semifinal round, taking the match 2-0 (25-14, 25-18).

Next up for the Vikings is a league match tonight, 5:15 p.m. against Senator Gershaw at Crescent Heights. The varsity boys’ teams will follow at 7 p.m. or so.
