Aleman scores five, Cubs win on road

By Medicine Hat News on September 28, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Cubs picked up their first win of the Heritage Junior Hockey League season with a 6-4 victory over the Flyers on Friday night in High River.

Chandler Aleman led the push with a five-goal performance while Fletcher Aleman and Noah Irvine each added two helpers in the win.

Aleman scored each of Medicine Hat’s first five goals, though High River’s Taylor Clark and Josh Fleck answered each of the first two tallies to keep things close.

Aleman struck again to snap the back-and-forth trend midway through the second period before adding his fifth of the night to give Medicine Hat a 5-2 edge after 40 minutes.

High River cut the deficit to a pair halfway through the third period on a goal from Josh Conley, then Kian Simonson added a late consolation marker after Medicine Hat’s Mason Fischer pushed the game out of reach with an empty-netter.

Cubs netminder Logan Leroux stopped 24 shots to secure the win and push Medicine Hat to 1-1-0.

The Flyers used two goalies in the loss, which drops High River to 0-2-1. Max Johnston was pulled in the second after allowing five goals on 20 shots, then Devyn LaRocke stopped 13 in relief.

The Cubs return to the Kinplex Sunday to host the Lomond Lakers in their home opener at 2:45 p.m. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early for a pre-game light show and player introductions.
