There are certainly tougher challenges ahead, but it’s so far, so good for new Rattlers soccer coach Robert Cavicchia. The Medicine Hat College bench boss saw both women’s and men’s teams pick up wins in Calgary Friday over Ambrose’s Lions, a great sign through two weeks of regular season play. Cavicchia, who moved from Ontario to take the job as joint coach for both squads this summer, could not be reached by press time. According to the Rattlers’ Facebook page, Grace Porter had a hat trick in a 5-0 women’s win, while Kaylei Hole and Maisa Rebello had the others. Raouf Mohamed and Colton Pacheco scored in a 2-0 men’s win. Both teams host Winnipeg’s Canadian Mennonite University Blazers Saturday in exhibition play, with games at noon and 2 p.m. CMU is new to the Canadian Colleges Athletic Conference scene, their Manitoba conference added to the CCAA this summer. Medicine Hat’s men are now tied atop their division standings with a 2-0-1 record, while the women, at 2-1, are tied for second. 8
