Medicine Hat Tigers captain James Hamblin leads his team back to the bench after scoring the opening goal in a Western Hockey League game against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at the Canalta Centre. Hamblin will once again wear the captain's C as for the Tigers this season.

Four members of the Medicine Hat Tigers will be furthering their future in the game at four different NHL training camps next week.

Mads Søgaard leads the group as the only drafted prospect attending camp from the Tabbies, while James Hamblin, Ryan Chyzowski and Brett Kemp will compete as free agents. Søgaard heard his name called by the Ottawa Senators with the 37th overall pick in June’s NHL entry draft, while Hamblin will suit up with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Kemp will compete with the New York Rangers and Chyzowski will skate with the Winnipeg Jets.

Søgaard earned his way onto the draft stage after posting a2.64 goals against average, a .921 save percentage – good enough for sixth in the league – and a 19-8-2-2 record with three shutouts.

Hamblin – who dislocated his knee while competing with the Leafs at development camp in June – led the Tigers with 33 goals, 44 assists and plus-18 rating, while Kemp matched Hamblin’s goal production and added 27 assists and Chyzowski rounded out his season with 27 goals and 28 helpers.

The Tigers hit the ice for training camp on Friday at the Canalta Centre.
