Zach Toth is seen at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip this past weekend.

A unique race finished up the weekend at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip Sunday.

After seeing cars take to the starting line against cars and motorcycles square off with motorcycles, the local association did things a bit different in a king of the track-styled event called Member Track Madness.

Along with a custom No. 1 trophy from the National Hot Rod Association, the winner got two tickets to go see any NHRA national event.

Zach Toth, the pro bike winner Saturday and the class runner-up Sunday, had his 2008 Kawasaki ZR-7. Chance Edelmann, the pro winner Saturday, lined up in his 1984 Mercury Capri.

Despite both Hat racers registering breakouts, Toth finished one thousandth of a second closer to his dial-in time than Edelmann, giving him the win.

Calgary’s Adam Hettler won the pro bike Sunday over Toth, which also saw a double breakout. Joel Bowen of Bragg Creek was the super pro winner in, you guessed it, a double breakout over Medicine Hat’s Todd Fleck.

High River’s Monty Beagle beat Medicine Hat’s Tyler Zeller for Sunday’s pro final win. In sportsman, Braydon Benko beat fellow Hatter Dean Adie.

Sunday’s junior wins went to Kiandra Gaetz (junior thunder), Tanner Gaetz (junior lightning) and Teagan Thorpe (junior street), all hometown drivers. Both Gaetz’s repeated their respective Saturday wins, while Thorpe got back at Regina’s Isaac Stettner who won their Saturday matchup.

Other Saturday winners were Brooke Burden in super pro, edging Brent Grimm, and Zachart Gaetz in sportsman, winning against Murray Van Maarion.

Friday’s winners were Sherri Larson of Brooks (street), Balonie, Sask.’s Sasha Romanow (street ladies night) and Hettler (bike).

The weekend also featured funny car exhibition runs.
