Soccer team finishes summer with a trophy

Two Medicine Hat soccer teams were in Calgary this past weekend and brought home medals – one to close out its season and the other as a great lead-in to provincials.

The Rattlers Academy Soccer Club under-11 boys are too young to enter in provincials, so finishing their summer with a win was pretty much the best they could’ve done.

A 5-1 win Sunday over the Spartans Argonauts accomplished just that.

The boys also beat the LFC Slayers and Wolfpack by identical 5-0 scores, following a 3-3 tie against MSB Avalanche which opened the weekend.

The under-13 boys won bronze, though no individual game scores from Calgary were reported. They head to Lethbridge for Tier 2 provincials which start Friday.

Medicine Hat hosts under-15 girls and boys Tier 3 provincials Friday, Saturday and Sunday at both the Family Leisure Centre and Crescent Heights pitches. Though the host club doesn’t have a boys team entered, the girls begin their quest for gold at 11 a.m. Saturday.
