It couldn’t have meant less in the standings, but with 3,626 fans looking on at Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, the Medicine Hat Mavericks weren’t able to finish their regular season with a win. The teams traded first-inning runs, then lazed their way until the home team earned a 6-1 win with five runs in the eighth inning. Liam Rosebeck took the loss, working into the eighth but giving up two runs. He traded outs with Okotoks’ Matt Merrill who struck out eight in six frames but left with a no decision. Alex Jones retired six of seven batters to earn the win. Colin Klingensmith extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a leadoff double, scoring on PJ Garcia’s two-bagger behind him. Both players finished 2-for-4. Tristan Peters led off Okotoks’ half of the first with a home run, but after that neither team threatened much on offence until a walk and an error in Okotoks’ eighth got things rolling. Peters capped the rally with his second homer of the night, this one a three-run shot. Peters finished the regular season with a league-best .396 average, was second with 12 home runs and sixth with 44 RBI. Klingensmith pushed his average up to third in the league, .384. Weyburn’s Jack Barrie (19 home runs) and Lethbridge’s Kaleb Warden (66 RBI) were the other offensive champions from the regular season. Regina’s Michael Batten swept the pitching categories with an 8-0 record, 81 strikeouts and 1.53 ERA. 8
