A big stage is nothing new for most of Medicine Hat’s team at Junior Canadian Little League Championships, so facing the host team right off the bat should be a good early test. At Lethbridge, the Hat crew faces Lethbridge Saturday night, then Saskatchewan Sunday. With many players from the major AAA team that hosted nationals in 2017, head coach Dean Harrison hopes that experience should help in pressure situations. “These kids have been through a big tournament, a couple of them have been through two of them now,” said Harrison. “So that helps out a lot when nerves and stuff, especially that first game, or a must-win game, that helps both ways.” Lethbridge is typically strong, but Harrison doesn’t know what to expect the rest of the way. Quebec, Ontario, B.C. and Atlantic teams round out the roster. “Saskatchewan is back in after a couple years. You never know what to expect, you don’t know who’s coming from across Canada so it’s wait and see,” said Harrison. “Hopefully the boys know we can’t do anything about who we’re playing, just play the way they can play and we’ll be fine.” The Canadian champion heads to Taylor, Michigan for the Little League World Series in August. 7
