FAME: Lots of options to get out in the sun this summer

By Kristina Segall on July 24, 2019.

One of the main reasons I love living in the city of Medicine Hat is the amount of sunshine we receive! In one year we get 2,544 hours of sunshine! You know what that means? Lots of opportunities to get outside and get active!

I’m going to share with you 10 outdoor activities you can do in Medicine Hat this summer.

1. Go for a run or walk in the Coulees. The view is outstanding and the majority of paths are paved.

2. Go golfing or mini golfing. We have so many beautiful courses in Medicine Hat.

3. Play tennis or pickleball on the courts offered by the City. The City does a phenomenal job maintaining the courts! Don’t know how to play? YouTube it.

4. Gather friends together and play a pick up game of beach volleyball, kickball or soccer. You’re bound to have lots of laughs.

5. Go swimming! We have lots of outdoor pools. Make sure to pack sunscreen.

6. Batting cages! Go swing that bat and have a blast!

7. Lawn bowling. Great for people of all ages!

8. Disc golf. Go to Central Park and play Frisbee golf and then walk to Swirls after!

9. Go for a bike ride. Did you know the visitor centre allows you to borrow bikes for free?

10. Walk a pet. Don’t have a pet? Head to a local rescue and volunteer walking dogs.

Try to get 60 minutes of exercise each and every day. Your body will thank you for it and I can promise you, you will have a blast doing any of the 10 activities that I listed above. Grab a friend or a family member, and tackle this list or make your own! Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. Try something new each week!

I hope you have a great summer being active in our beautiful city.
