Watson faster at London meet

Sage Watson continued her summer at the Diamond League event in London, England Sunday with a season-best time.

The SevSage Watson continued her summer at the Diamond League event in London, England Sunday with a season-best time.

The Seven Persons-born 400 metre hurdles specialist wound up seventh in the eight-woman race in a time of 55.32 seconds.

Jamaica’s Rushell Clayton won in 54.16 seconds.

Not only was that a season best, it met the 55.40-second qualifying standard for next summer’s Olympics in Japan.

“Lots more to improve on but I’m making progress,” Watson wrote on social media following the race. “Next up Canadian Nationals.”

Indeed, nationals are in Montreal starting Thursday. The women’s 400 hurdles final is Sunday.

Watson’s best-ever 400 hurdles time remains the 54.52-second race she had in winning the 2017 NCAA crown.
