Local soccer players team up with Lethbridge for success

By Medicine Hat News on July 23, 2019.

Without enough players to form a team of their own, five Medicine Hat boys have found a way to continue their soccer dreams this summer.

Robert Lee, Holden Lehr, Ethan Pitman, Paul Wasyluk and Ross Wilder were in Seattle this past weekend. They’ve played all season with a team from Lethbridge, racking up a 6-2 record in the Calgary association’s under-17 Tier 2 division.

At Seattle for the Sounders FC Cup event, Lethbridge was entered in an under-18 division. After losing their first game 5-1 to the eventual champs, they held teams from Alaska and San Diego to 0-0 draws and came one goal against from getting a rematch with their first opponent in Sunday’s final.

Lehr won a skills competition, totaling 65 juggles in 30 seconds as part of it.

Headed back to Alberta, the team is getting set for Tier 2 provincials next month in Sherwood Park.
