Cut doesn’t play nice to one Hatter at men’s amateur

By Medicine Hat News on July 18, 2019.

Lanny Seefried could only wait and watch as the final scores came in, hoping his score would wind up on the right side of the cut line at the Alberta Men’s Amateur Golf Championship.

The Desert Blume member had followed an opening-round 76 with an 81 at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Ponoka Wednesday, a shot back of the projected cut down to the top 60 and ties.

All he needed was two more players to drop a stroke or two and he’d be playing the last two rounds.

It wasn’t to be.

With Camrose’s Andrew Harrison atop the leaderboard at 4-under, six players tied at 14-over for 55th and Seefried was on the outside looking in.

Three other Hat-connected players did make the cut. Ryan Hodgins shot a 1-over 72 to sit 5-over, in a five-way tie for eighth spot. Michael Valk is tied for 15th, another two shots back after a 75. And ex-Rattler Mason Rabinovitch dropped way down on the leaderboard with an 82, only making the cut by a stroke.
