Ex-Rattler in the mix at amateur

By Medicine Hat News on July 17, 2019.

A former Medicine Hat College Rattlers golfer made a bit of noise Tuesday in the first round of the Alberta Men’s Amateur Championship.

Mason Rabinovitch, who last played for the Rattlers five years ago, shot a 2-over 73 at Wolf Creek Golf Club in Ponoka to sit in a 10-way tie for ninth place. He’s four back of Camrose’s Andrew Harrison.

Three Medicine Hat players are also in the mix. Michael Valk, who played at Wayland Baptist University in Texas this past season, shot a 74 and is likewise tied with nine others in 19th spot. Ryan Hodgins, fresh off a strong showing at the Alberta junior championships, shot a 75 and is tied in 29th position. Lanny Seefried, a longtime member at Desert Blume, shot a 76 and is tied for 37th in the field of 119.

They’re all in position to make the top-60 plus ties cut following today’s round. The 72-hole event will qualify three players to the Alberta team headed to nationals next month in Nova Scotia.
