The Medicine Hat K of C Knights were dealt a tough 12-2 loss to open their A American Legion Baseball doubleheader against the Vauxhall Spurs on Friday night at Athletic Park.

While the Knights struck for a pair in the sixth to cut Vauxhall’s 4-0 lead in half, the Spurs responded with eight unanswered runs in the seventh to secure the lopsided victory.

Cale Ferguson was the lone Knight to manage two hits in the setback, while Cole Rath and Evan Morrison were the only other members of the team to find the hit column.

Jack Didack was left with the loss after allowing four runs – two earned – on five hits through the first four innings of the game. Wyatt Study entered and held the Spurs off the board until the seventh.

The second half of the doubleheader did not conclude by press time.

Over in Lethbridge, the Medicine Hat Moose Monarchs took a 9-1 loss at the hands of the Lethbridge Elks to open the Mary Oikawa Memorial Tournament.

Kayden Hleucka led the Monarchs with the team’s lone RBI in a 1-for-3 showing at the dish.

Monarchs starter Connor Drever was left with the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks through the first three innings of the game.

The Mary Oikawa Memorial Tournament continues through Sunday.
