Hat High’s top athletic honours go to multiple-sport athletes

By Medicine Hat News on June 12, 2019.

Hat High held its athletic awards banquet Tuesday night, with the top awards going to a pair of multi-sport stars.

Zach Campbell, who starred in football, wrestling and track and field in his final year of high school, picked up the male athlete of the year award. Brooklyn Kaczynski, a standout in basketball and track, was the female athlete of the year.

Campbell is among a bevy of Mohawks about to start a post-secondary football career. But a provincial wrestling gold medal prompted him to add that sport to his plans at the University of Alberta this fall. He also ran on two relay teams at track provincials this past weekend in Calgary.

Kaczynski competed at the provincial track championships in long and triple jump, and was also a leader on the Kwahommies basketball team. Hat High won its third straight track 4A team banner.
