Mavericks continue busy schedule with first home game in a week

By Medicine Hat News on June 11, 2019.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks don’t get many days off in their two-month sprint of a season, but after a 10-hour drive home from Fort McMurray, Monday’s was an easy decision.

The Mavs return to Athletic Park tonight to face the Giants, whom they split a four-game series with as part of a six-game road trip last week.

Since their May 30 opener, Medicine Hat has had just two off-days. Their next scheduled one is June 17, then they play every day until June 26. That’s 25 games in 28 days, but it’s also the kind of schedule pro baseball players work.

Cameron Pope leads the Mavs with a .444 batting average, while pitcher Junior Pimentel has yet to allow a run in two appearances, both wins.

Fort McMurray’s Tanner Hess is hitting .542, second in the Western Canadian Baseball League. Ike Buxton is 2-0 with a 1.63 earned run average.

First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
