Mavericks take it to Prospects

By Medicine Hat News on June 5, 2019.

Junior Pimentel was dominant as the Medicine Hat Mavericks got back in the winner’s circle Tuesday in Edmonton.

Pimentel, in his second year with the Mavs, struck out 10 Prospects as the visitors earned a 14-3 win.

Tuesday had some good news and some bad news for Medicine Hat. Monday’s collision between outfielders left returnee Julien Ly sidelined while John Velasco merely had a black eye and went 2-for-4 at the plate with 2 RBI and two runs scored in the victory over the Prospects.

A six-run third inning broke the game wide open Tuesday, with starting pitcher Austin Herrington having major control problems. Herrington walked seven batters in 2 2/3 innings and took the loss.

Pimentel patiently sat in the dugout for the lengthy third frame, then came out and kept mowing down batters. He only gave up three hits in six innings, walking one and leaving with a 10-0 lead.

The Mavs got two innings from Kevin Santana and one from Hunter Cooper to wrap up the night. At the plate Nolan Rattai went 4-for-7 with 2 RBI and two runs, Cameron Pope was 3-for-5 with three runs, and Collin Klingensmith was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and two runs. Medicine Hat wound up with 21 hits as a team.

Javier Ramirez and Travis Hunt each had two hits for the Prospects.

Attendance at Re/Max Field was announced at 455. The teams will play again tonight before the Mavs heads to Fort McMurray for four games.
