Medicne Hat High School's Gloria Lokbai looks to clear the bar as she competes in the senior girls 100 high jump during the South Zone track and field meet Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the University of Lethbridge Stadium.

Hat High’s run at a second straight provincial track and field title is checking off all the boxes so far.

The Mohawks picked up another South Zone 4A team title Thursday in Lethbridge, with the Alberta Schools Athletic Association finals set for next weekend in Calgary.

There were plenty of Hat athletes among the aggregate winners. For Hat High, Joshua Suelzle was the intermediate boys aggregate champion, while teammate Eli Smith tied with Nanton’s Josh Niwa for the senior boys aggregate title.

In junior girls, Monsignor McCoy’s Claire Holt and Ecole les Cypres’ Ayla Wikjord co-shared top spot along with Winston Churchill’s Cayla Stimson.

The other tier banners went to Noble Central (1A), Raymond (2A) and Lethbridge Composite (3A).

Suelzle set new shot put, discus and javelin records, throwing the five kilogram shot 13.69 metres, the discus 41.85 and the javelin 49.49, breaking old marks set in 2014.

Smith won the 800, was second in both the 1,500 and 3,000 and was part of a winning 4×400 relay team.

Holt won high jump with a 1.48 metre clearance, was second in 80 metre hurdles, third in discus and fourth in triple jump.

Hat High’s Elic Ayomanor, in likely his only South Zone high school championships before moving to the United States to pursue football, won both the 200 and 400 junior boys sprints. Teammate Orin May set a zone record with a time of 13.78 seconds in the 100 metre intermediate boys hurdles.
