A cheerleading team from Medicine Hat did itself proud at a competition in Mexico this month.

The Killer Beez team from the Stingerz All-Starz Cheerleading club placed fifth in its open co-ed division at the Magical Championships of the World in Puerto Vallarta, scoring 278 out of a possible 350 points according to a Facebook post from the team May 17.

Stingerz coach Debbie Schultz wrote in a press release that four Mexican teams were ahead of them in the standings, but that they were the top Canadian entry in their division. She was especially proud that the team’s performance earned no deductions.

“What was accomplished in Mexico was beyond our wildest dreams,” wrote Schultz. “We took our role seriously, being on an international stage representing our city and province.”
