Dannan McElroy-O'Driscoll returns a shot to Libby Bourassa in the City Singles tennis tournament women's final on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Medicine Hat Tennis Club.

There was a changing of the guard of sorts Saturday night at the Medicine Hat Tennis Club.

Instead of the usual names topping the list in the ladies draw at the City Singles Tournament, it was a pair of juniors going at it for the first trophy of the season.

Libby Bourassa beat Dannan McElroy-O’Driscoll 2-1 (6-3, 4-6, 6-3) for the win.

Tracy Heller got by Sheila Reinheller 2-0 (7-5, 7-5) in the consolation final, but it was the youngsters who stole the show.

Sunday’s men’s final was a familiar one, with top seed Calvin Heller beating second seed Cory Streifel 2-0 (6-3, 6-2).

The men’s consolation final saw Quinlan O’Drisoll defeat Peter O’Driscoll 2-0 (6-1, 6-3).

Finally, the men’s intermediate division was won by Cody Woodcock, 2-0 (6-1, 7-5) over Brock Hale. Ryder Siegers took the consolation side, 2-0 (6-3, 6-0) over Gary Laurent.

Next up at the club is the Tim Hortons Junior Open June 9.
