Mohawks finish third Dino meet in style

By Medicine Hat News on May 14, 2019.

Eight Hat High athletes were in Calgary Friday for the final Dino High School Challenge meet of the season.

Kyle Spackman showed he’s already in fine form, winning the intermediate boys pole vault with a sturdy 3.50 metre effort. Noah Dolter was second in senior pole vault, clearing 2.90 metres.

Jaylaina Callan was the other top-eight finisher, seventh in junior girls discus.

The final of three Dino meets was focused on field events, as the Mohawks sent different sets of athletes to each of the events.

A much larger team is headed east to Swift Current Wednesday, competing in a dual meet in a rare battle between the previous year’s provincial champions. Hat High took the Alberta 4A banner for the second time in 2018, while Swift claimed the 4A title in Saskatchewan.

Medicine Hat’s city meet is next week, followed by zones in Lethbridge and provincials in Calgary.
