Hat duo wins gold at tourney

A pair of Medicine Hat pickleball players got a big win in High River this past weekend.

Cory Streifel and Trevor Riddell teamed up to win their men’s open 4.0 division at the Southern Alberta Pickleball Open, beating out competitors in a three-day draw.

They beat the Calgary and Gull Lake team of John Kim and Haddow Thul in the final, 12-10, 7-11 and 12-10. They went 4-0 overall on the weekend, also beating Kim and Thul in the round robin, but were taken to a third set in all but one of their matches in the four-team division.

Medicine Hat’s big Showdown in the Hat event is set for July 25-28.
