Rattlers women’s volleyball and basketball get to host

Not one but two Medicine Hat College Rattlers teams have already booked their spots in conference championships next year.

The Rattlers announced Wednesday they’ve been awarded both the women’s volleyball and basketball playoff hosting duties by the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for 2020.

The volleyball finals take place Feb. 26-29, followed the next weekend, March 4-7, by the basketball tournament.

Host teams get automatic berths at the eight-team conference events. The Rattlers women’s basketball team had the ACAC’s best record this past season (18-3) before a quarter-final upset loss, while the women’s volleyball side missed playoffs with a 12-12 record.

The college’s men’s volleyball (2017) and basketball (2018) teams have hosted the championships in recent years. The women’s basketball finals haven’t been held in Medicine Hat in at least 29 years, and possibly ever, while the women’s volleyball team last hosted a decade ago.
