The Medicine Hat Hounds midget hockey team are Central Alberta Hockey League champions.
The Hounds clinched the title after sweeping the Foothills Flyers in a best-of-three championship series with a 7-3 victory Saturday in Medicine Hat and a 6-3 win Sunday in Blackie, capping off a banner year on the ice.
Medicine Hat closed out the Tier 2 season in first place with a 13-2-1 record before sweeping the Rocky Mountain Renegades with 5-3 and 8-4 victories, then going the distance with the Airdrie in the semifinal.
After picking up a 3-2 win in Game 1, the Hounds fell 5-3 in Airdrie for Game 2 then returned home and punched their ticket to the final with an 8-5 victory.
