Søgaard named to Eastern Conference’s second all-star team

By Medicine Hat News on March 21, 2019.

Medicine Hat Tigers goaltender Mads Søgaard earned another accolade Wednesday by having his name added to the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference second all-star team.

The 18-year-old Danish netminder closed out his first WHL season with a 2.64 goals against average, a .921 save percentage – good enough for fourth in the league – and a 19-8-2-2 record.

Søgaard was named the Canadian Hockey League’s goaltender of the week twice, first in mid-December then again in early February.

The 6-foot-7, 190-pound goaltender also earned WHL tender of the week honours on both occasions. Søgaard also competed on behalf of Denmark at the IIHF World Junior Championship, as well as with Team Cherry at the CHL-NHL Top Prospects Game and is ranked third among North American goaltenders by NHL Central Scouting ahead of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.
