For the second year in a row the Rattlers women’s basketball team will end its season in a consolation game against Calgary’s St. Mary’s Lightning.
Last year it was at nationals.
This year it’s at the conference level.
Medicine Hat College rebounded in a big way from a quarter-final loss with a 76-36 win over Lethbridge Friday at Keyano College in Fort McMurray.
With the chance of making the final – and a spot at nationals – gone after Thursday’s loss to Augustana, the Rattlers kept their heads held high and dominated, opening with a 6-0 run and closing with a 23-4 fourth quarter in which the Kodiaks didn’t score until the final two minutes.
Morgan Muir had 17 points and six steals for Medicine Hat, which saw all but injured Abygail LaRochelle score in the blowout. LaRochelle was reported as hurting herself during Thursday’s game.
Madi Gladstone led Lethbridge with 11 points, but Medicine Hat’s defence was on point, as the Kodiaks shot 17.2 per cent from the field.
St. Mary’s beat NAIT 66-51 in the other consolation game. Keyano and Olds will meet in Saturday’s final, with both already booking their national tickets thanks to semifinal wins Friday.
