Edit: The original version of this story incorrectly stated the final score. It’s just one win, but it represents a whole lot more. On Tuesday in Okotoks, the South East Athletic Club’s bantam AAA Tigers beat the Oilers 4-3 to open their best-of-three opening round playoff series. It’s the first playoff win ever by a SEAC bantam team since the club was created to replace Medicine Hat back in 2012. On Thursday at Hockey Hounds Arena they’ll try to win the series. Opening-minute goals by Domenic Fiaccio and Conyr Hellyer put Okotoks in full control, and the team that finished 10 points ahead of the Tigers in the regular season still led 3-1 after 40 minutes. But three third-period goals gave SEAC the massive win. Dayden Collier, who had scored in the first, also netted the game-winner with 1:20 left in the third. Dawson Seitz and Josh Van Mulligen had the others. Hellyer had two goals for Okotoks, his second coming on a second period power play. Kaiden Morin made 20 saves for the Tigers, who outshot the Oilers 11-3 in the final frame. Game 2 starts at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Okotoks has home-ice advantage thanks to finishing second in their division, while the Tigers – who got back to the post-season last year after a few years missing out – were third. Game 3, if necessary, would be Friday back in Okotoks. 11
