It’s been a good week for Medicine Hat pickleball players south of the border.

Two players in tournaments 3,000 kilometres apart won titles recently. This past Saturday in Sebring, Florida, Hatter Dwight Berg teamed up with Chris Donaghy to claim the 55-to-59 age group at the Heartland Senior Games.

Three days earlier, Keith Edwards teamed up with Moose Jaw’s Doug Olson to win a men’s doubles tournament in Mesa, Arizona.

At the Venture Out All City Pickleball Tournament, Edwards and Olson won the first four matches they played in the 3.0-level doubles draw, getting to the final where they lost in three sets (11-5, 2-11, 5-11), except that the double knockout rules meant they had to play one final set to determine a champion.

Given the extra chance, they converted with a 16-14 win over fellow Canadians Wayne Hackner and Thomas Schneider.

No details were available from Berg’s one-day event win.
