Medals weren’t the only thing the Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club’s swimmers brought home from a meet in Lethbridge this past weekend.

At the Mint Smartwash Winter Invitational, 25 Marlins combined for 66 medals, but also a bunch of qualifying times to bigger meets.

Delrae Vetter, 14, got a qualifying time for junior nationals as well as western championships as part of her five-gold haul. Vetter swept the 100, 200 and 400 metre freestyle events, then added the 200 and 400 metre medleys.

Fellow 14-year-olds Jaiden Riddell, Ashton Scholly and Parker Maxwell also earned western qualifying times. Riddell also took five gold, winning his 50, 100 and 200 free plus the 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Scholly won the 50 and 200 back and was second in the 100 back plus the 50, 100 and 400 metre free events. Maxwell won 100 and 200 metre fly, was second in 200 metre medley, breaststroke and freestyle and was third in 50 free.

The Medicine Hat Waves sent 15 athletes to the meet as well. Cambria Henderson-Muryn won her 50 and 100 metre breaststroke and was second in the 200. Fellow 11-and-under Sarah Kradovill was second in 50 butterfly, plus third in 50 freestyle and 200 medley. Grace Jacobs (14-under) was third in 50 and 200 backstroke, Jaivyn Barabe (14-under) was third in 200 breast.

Waves boys medallists were led by Kage Senft’s five-medal haul. In 11-under, Senft won the 200 free and 50 fly and was second in 50 and 100 free and 100 back. Other medal winners included Karsten Senft (bronze in 14-under 100 fly and 200 back), Jericho Raneses (bronze in 16-under 200 back), William Miller (bronze in 11-under 200 back) and Jonathan Marshall (second in 12-under 50 breast and 50 fly; bronze in 100 back and 50 free).

There were lots more Marlins on the podium as well. Maria Pachan was one of a few six-medal swimmers, winning the 200 and 400 free and 200 medley, taking silver in 100 breast and bronze in 100 free and 200 breast. Fellow 12-year-old Jocelyn Macphail had four silver (100, 200 free; 100 back, 50 fly) and a bronze (50 free). Hunter Skrove, 11, had five gold (50, 200 and 400 free; 50 back, 50 breast) and a silver (200 breast), setting new personal bests in all of them. Elizabeth Bowey, Aspen Fetch, Nick Jones, Evan Ma, Berlin Mastel, Munro Maxwell, Ethan Rochon, Trinity Shilka, Kaitlyn Skrove, Quirina Thompson and Elliot Valk also medalled.
