Billed as a showdown of top import goalies, Jiri Patera and Mads Søgaard didn’t disappoint.

But it was Patera’s Brandon Wheat Kings who prevailed Tuesday, beating Søgaard and the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1.

At Brandon, Danish goalie Søgaard made 42 saves and Czech netminder Petera 40. Both have a good chance of representing their home countries at the World Junior Championship in a few weeks.

Luka Burzan scored for Brandon late in the first period. Ryan Chyzowski replied with 4:57 left in the second, but Stelio Mattheos replied 98 seconds later for what held up as the game-winner.

Linden McCorrister, then Ben McCartney into an empty net, sending most in the announced crowd of 3,227 at Westoba Place home happy.

Only three penalties were called on the night, two against Tigers’ Baxter Anderson in the third period.

Medicine Hat, 13-14-1-2, now heads to Moose Jaw tonight to play the Warriors. Brandon, 14-7-3-3, has won four straight.
