Hundreds of swimmers churned the water at the Family Leisure Centre this past weekend at the Marlin Marquee Invitational.

To no one’s surprise, the home teams had great results.

Both the host Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club and Medicine Hat Waves came away with dozens of podium placements in the three-day event, which began Friday.

For the Waves, their 23 swimmers combined for nine gold, eight silver and six bronze medals.

Grace Jacobs was the Waves top medal earner, winning her 50, 100 and 200 metre backstroke then adding a bronze in 100 metre individual medley in the girls 11 and 12-year-old division.

Thirteen-year-old Karsten Senft rang up six medals, including two gold (200 freestyle and 100 IM), two silver (50 butterfly and 100 free) and two bronze (50 free and 100 back). And 11-year-old Jonathan Marshall had five medals (gold in 50 fly, silver in 200 free and 50 breaststroke, bronze in 50 free and 100 back).

Other waves winners were 10-year-old Kage Senft, with gold in the 100 breast and 100 IM and 13-year-old Jaivyn Barabe who wono her 100 breast.

Overall the Waves got best times in 135 of the 202 races they entered, and noted that 10-year-old William Miller achieved a festival standard time.

For the Marlins, they wound up with 70 gold medals, 40 silver and 26 bronze in the 10-club meet. That was more than one for each of the 56 swimmers they entered, though a couple stood out.

Kristin Hollingworth was a seven-gold winner in the 11 and 12-year-old division (50 free, 100 free, 100 breast, 50 fly, 100 fly, 100 medley, 400 medley). If that weren’t enough, she also helped relay teams to two other gold medals, among 11 relay medals for AMAC.

Ashton Scholly won seven gold in the 15 and 16-year-old boys group. Scholly touched first in 50, 100, 400 and 800 free, then the 50, 100 and 200 back.

Six-gold winners from AMAC were Jaiden Riddell and Delrae Vetter.
