Senator Gershaw’s varsity boys volleyball team has swept the table in the regular season. Now the Gators get to see if they can finish it off with a league title and lots of momentum heading to zone playoffs.

The Bow Island boys swept Crescent Heights 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) Wednesday in Medicine Hat, winding up 5-0 in the South East Zone Volleyball League.

The Vikings wound up 3-2, missing a chance to host the league playoffs next week.

Instead it’s the 2A-sized Gershaw that will invite the league to try and knock them off next Wednesday, starting with quarter-finals at 4 p.m., then semifinals and the championship match set for 8 p.m.

Gators coach Andy Phillips wrote in an email that his side was led by Grade 11 setter Brendan Smith, “who distributed the ball effectively to his hitters.”

The varsity girls playdowns will take place at Crescent Heights next Thursday.
