A couple new faces in the lineup helped out, but it was the familiar ones who led the way as the Medicine Hat Tigers exploded for an 8-5 win in Regina Friday over the Pats.

Captain James Hamblin and alternate captain Ryan Chyzowski each had two goals and an assist on a night newcomer Logan Christensen and 15-year-old Cole Sillinger made debuts.

At the Brandt Centre, Regina led for all of five minutes in front of a crowd of 4,543. Duncan Pierce assisted on a Liam Schioler goal, then scored one of his own midway through the second period for a 3-2 lead.

But Chyzowski scored his second of the night on the power play at the 13:44 mark, then Christensen — acquired Thursday from Saskatoon — delivered his first in orange and black 32 seconds later.

By the time the period was over, the score was 6-3 for the visitors thanks to Hamblin’s eighth and ninth markers of the season.

Sillinger, the first-round bantam draft pick who’s only allowed to play five games up at the WHL level this season due to his age, didn’t register a shot or any points in his hometown.

Instead, the rookie who made his mark was Jaxson Steele. The 18-year-old who played 17 games with Medicine Hat last season got his first WHL goal with 5:24 left in the game to make it 7-3.

Josh Williams, on a first period power play, and Tyler Preziuso, into an empty net, had the other goals for the Tigers. Jake Leschyshyn, Aaron Hyman and Nick Henry had the Pats’ other replies.

Jordan Hollett made 31 saves for the win in the Medicine Hat net, while his counterpart Max Paddock was pulled after the disastrous finish to the second period having allowed six goals on 31 shots.

Medicine Hat had a great night on special teams too, going 4-for-6 on the power play while only giving Regina two man advantages on the night.

Now 8-6-0-1, the Tigers next host 5-4-3-0 Moose Jaw Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at Canalta Centre. Regina fell to 3-10-0-0.
