ASDCaims to help local athletes get to the next level

They say the sky is the limit. We say there is no limit. At the Alberta Sport Development Centre we help create the best athletes in our province. How? Our athletes know that you cannot just wake up and be the best. You have to train hard to be the best. You have to take every opportunity you are given to improve your sport performance if you want to compete at a higher level. Our athletes have the dedication and passion to be better. To be better athletes, to be better leaders and to excel beyond their greatest dreams, because they put in the hard work behind the scenes that is required to succeed.

How you prepare for a competition when no one is watching sets the difference between good athletes and great athletes. The amount of practice and preparation you put in before a competition will directly affect the results of the competition. How are you preparing to improve your sport performance? How are you outworking your competition? We can help you improve your sport performance to ensure that you reach your full potential. Champions do not win by hoping that they will be better than their competitors will on any given day, they prepare to be better. They make sure they are doing everything they can to succeed.

We have 1-on-1 support available from experts in sports nutrition, mental skills, and exercise physiology. Sports nutrition fuels athletic performance. Are you eating the right things before and after a competition? Do you feel like you have enough energy when that final buzzer goes?

Work with our mental skills trainer to learn about mental strength. What techniques are you using to calm your nerves and visualize your success? What tools do you use to set proper goals? What are you doing to reach your goals?

Learn from a certified exercise physiologist the latest in exercise recovery, injury prevention, fundamental movement execution and core strength to provide a safe and effective training environment. We can help you reach your goals, it will not be easy and will require dedication and hard work, but it will be worth it.

The ASDC— Southeast believes that by working together as athletes, coaches, parents, and organizations, we can create the best athletes in our province. The main purpose of the ASDC network — which also includes locations in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie and Lethbridge — is to coordinate and enhance services available to Alberta’s emerging athletes and coaches.

Kristina Segall is the coordinator of the Alberta Sport Development Centre —Southeast and she would love to hear from you and chat with you about the ASDC-SE programs and services that are offered in Brooks and Medicine Hat. She can be reached via email at ksegall@mhc.ab.ca and via phone at 403-504-3547.
