They made huge strides in just getting to the playoffs last season.

Now the Southeast Athletic Club bantam AAA Tigers want to follow it up.

On the road to start their campaign, the Tigers beat the Airdrie Xtreme 5-1 Saturday, before falling 4-2 to the Red Deer Rebels Sunday.

Still, they’ll take confidence into their home opener this Saturday, 2:15 p.m. at Hockey Hounds against the Calgary Northstar Sabres. Airdrie won their division last year, then took the league title in the playoffs and went all the way to the gold medal game at Westerns.

Matthew MacPherson had a goal and two assists for the Tigers at Airdrie, while Dawson Seitz, Josh Drefs, Shane Smith and Roman Cherniak had the other goals.

Bodee Weiss got a 26-save win in net for Southeast, only giving up a first-period goal to Cody Pisarcyzk 18 seconds after MacPherson opened the scoring.

On Sunday, Red Deer opened up a 4-0 lead before the Tigers got goals from Tyler Miller and Kieran Christianson.

Kaiden Morin took the loss in net as his team was outshot 39-28.

Midget 15’s

The midget 15-year-old Tigers open their season this Saturday at home to the Calgary Blackhawks.

Midget AA

The midget AA Hounds’ regular season starts this weekend with a game at Taber Friday night.

Bantam AA

As for the bantam AA Hounds, they were on the road this past weekend, dropping a 7-5 decision to the Bow Valley Timberwolves before earning a 4-4 tie in Lethbridge.

On Saturday in Cochrane, the Timberwolves never trailed. Medicine Hat got two goals from Aiden Ma, plus singles from Luke Irvine, Caleb Garrecht and Cole Unger.

Peewee AA

Contrary to reports after last season’s provincial championship win that Medicine Hat would have two peewee AA teams, there is only one, and they started out the new season with a win.

At Standard Friday night, the Hounds beat the Wheatland Braves 5-2. Eleven players recorded points, led by Deegan Bert and Josh Evaschesen with a goal and an assist each. Ryan Miller, Slade McFadzen and Josiah Jackson had the other goals.

Medicine Hat remains on the road this weekend before their home opener Oct. 6.
