Medicine Hat News

Precision was rewarded with a unique prize at the Medicine Hat Lawn Bowling Club Sunday.

The club held what it called the Yardstick Tournament, in which all bowls winding up a yard from the jack (target) ball counted in the scoring.

Usually only the team with the closest (or multiple closest) bowls scores points in an end. Needless to say some of the scores were a lot higher than usual, and usual strategies were thrown for a loop.

The prizes?Yardsticks, of course.

In the end, five of the seven winners were from Lethbridge. In the men’s division Al McGarty, Robert Rodzinyak and Bob Edmiston made it a sweep for the visitors on the podium. For the women, home club members Linda Bower and Ina Lutz made the top four beside Lethbridge’s Esther Rodzinyak and Ute Edmiston.
