The result was as expected based on the standings, but that didn’t make K of C Knights head coach Lane Aman any happier about how it played out.

At the first game of the Montana-Alberta American Legion baseball North District championships in Conrad, Montana Thursday, Aman’s eighth-seeded Knights were embarrassed, 15-0 by the No. 1-seed Vauxhall Spurs.

Medicine Hat committed six errors, two in a seven-run first inning for the Spurs and only tallied two hits before the mercy rule was invoked after the fifth frame.

“We just gave a good team too many outs to play with,” texted Aman. “The first inning Jaden (Schwindt, pitcher) could have been out of the inning with no runs or 1 run allowed but we made some physical and mental errors.”

Brady Howg struck out five Knights for the shutout, stranding men on second and third base in the third inning but otherwise not in any danger given the huge lead his offence gave him.

Catcher Bryden Sillito went 2-for-2 with three runs for Vauxhall, which next plays host Tri County.

Medicine Hat’s season is now on the line in the double knockout event and will play Fort Macleod next.
