Medicine Hat K of C Knights catcher Kaitlyn Ross is ready to make her mark on the international stage again.

The Redcliff product and Medicine Hat Little League graduate was named to the Canadian national women’s baseball team following selection camp in Montreal this week and will move on to compete for her country at the Women’s Baseball World Cup in Viera, Fla. from Aug. 22 to 31.

On top of being a key contributor on the Hat Knights A American Legion Baseball roster, Ross already helped Alberta’s women’s team to a third-place finish at the Canadian Women’s Baseball Championships in Montreal earlier this month before earning an invitation to national selection camp.

Ross was one of 26 athletes competing for a total of 20 spots at the camp. The camp featured four competitive games against squads from Quebec’s midget AAA league as well as daily practice sessions.

No. 2 Team Canada will open the World Cup against No. 10 Hong Kong on Aug. 22 before facing No. 9 Cuba, No. 1 Japan and No. 4 Australia and the unranked Dominican Republic in Group B.

Group A will feature No. 3 USA, No. 5 Venezuela, No. 6 Chinese Taipei, No. 7 Korea, No. 8 Netherlands and the unranked Puerto Rican squad.

Canada enters a reigning silver medalists, but will be on the hunt for their first-ever gold medal at the event.
