A pair of Medicine Hat pickleball players can call themselves national champions.

Carolyn Snyder and Ruthmary Hollis won gold in Kelowna at the Pickleball Canada Organization’s national championships Sunday, taking top spot in the women’s 3.0 skill level division.

The duo won all five of their games, including a 2-0 (11-2, 11-4) blowout in the final over the team of Joan Li and Lyanne Wong. The double knockout aspect of the bracket never came into play for the Hatters, while Li and Wong had lost their first match before rallying for six wins to come out of the loser’s bracket.

There were also higher skill divisions of 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and open.

Snyder and Hollis will be on home courts later this month when the Showdown in the Hat takes place July 27-29.
