Red numbers have been hard to find at the Sundre Golf Club this week, to the point only one junior is below par heading into today’s final round.

But if Innisfail’s Chandler McDowell falters at the Alberta Junior Boys Championship, Medicine Hat’s Ryan Hodgins is among the players who could catch him. And because Hodgins is only 16 years old, he’s the one in front in the race for the juvenile title.

McDowell shot an even-par 72 Thursday to take an eight-shot lead through 54 holes. Hodgins shot a 74 and is among three players tied for second place. But when you just look at juveniles, Hodgins leads Pincher Creek’s Ethan Choi by a shot.

Hodgins had two birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey on his third round scorecard.

Other Hat players who made the two-round cut include Sam Bratvold, who shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 48th spot, Caleb Kinch, who was 11-over 83 and Nolan Burzminski, whose 5-over 77 tied him with Kinch for 51st place entering the last round.
