On Tuesday they won in spite of errors.

On Wednesday, the Medicine Hat Mavericks won because of them.

The Mavs took a 5-2 win in Melville, helped by seven errors credited to the Millionaires defence. At least two more that didn’t get counted helped turn the tide.

Carson Johnson reached on a dropped third strike in Wednesday’s sixth inning, then scored after an error and a passed ball. A Jaxon Hooge double tied the game 2-2.

In the seventh, two walks and an error led to Medicine Hat’s other three runs. Colton Wright hit a two-out, bases-loaded single, then another error plated Johnson.

Lyle Hibbitts had a great outing for Melville, letting up three hits in six innings. Landen DeLozier, who replaced him to start the seventh, was credited with the loss.

Alex Dafoe was similarly impressive for the Mavs, giving up four hits in six innings and getting the win because Barry Caine didn’t replace him until after the top of the seventh. Caine threw two hitless innings, then Sean Cruz worked the ninth for a save.

Now winners of seven in a row, Medicine Hat (17-3) heads to last-place Yorkton (4-15) for two games. They host 11-11 Swift Current Sunday, then league-leading Weyburn (18-3) Monday and Tuesday.
