Medicine Hat News

It wasn’t pretty, but the Medicine Hat Mavericks got the job done in Melville Tuesday.

Despite committing six errors, the Mavs won their sixth game in a row, 13-9 thanks to a continued power surge at the plate. Medicine Hat has scored at least 10 runs in each of its last three games and eight overall this season.

The Millionaires led 3-2 and 8-6, but Medicine Hat re-took the lead in its next at-bat each time. The last surge, a five-run sixth that countered Melville’s five-run fifth, was highlighted by Michael Conn’s three-run home run.

Junior Pimentel threw 2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief for the win, striking out four batters. Julien Ly had the best night at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs, but again, all but one batter got at least a hit for the visitors.

Colton Wright had his second home run in as many days,

Keaton Sullivan’s three-run home run off Hat starter Jaymon Cervantes gave Melville fans lots to cheer about, but it was short-lived as Conn stepped to the plate a half-inning later. Zach Diaz took the loss, going 5 1/3 innings and striking out six.

Now 16-3, the Mavs play at 6-13 Melville again tonight before heading to Yorkton Thursday and Friday to wrap up the last long road trip of the season.
