Medicine Hat News

Drag racers brought the horsepower at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip’s points races this past weekend.

In junior thunder, it was High River’s Morgan Caron dominating with wins both Saturday and Sunday.

Redcliff’s Kyle Wagenaar took the Saturday junior lightning title before being eliminated by Medicine Hat’s Tanner Gaetz in Sunday’s semifinal round. Gaetz won that day’s eliminations.

Dunmore’s Justus Schaan was the junior street champ Saturday, edging Swift Current’s Chance Peters (who took the Sunday event).

Medicine Hat’s Marlin Ulriksen won the sportsman class Saturday, then the Hat’s Dennis Cotten took it Sunday.

Hat drivers wound up victorious despite a big number of entries in the pro class. On Saturday it was Chris Ries, then Sunday Chance Edelmann. Edelmann beat out fellow Hatter Harvey Turner, who was a semifinalist Saturday.

Mark Simmons and Todd Fleck each had a hometown win in super pro, with Simmons taking the victory Saturday and Fleck on Sunday.

It was a similar story in pro bike, where Zach Toth beat out Riley Toth Saturday, then Riley beat Dave Toth Sunday.

The next race weekend at the strip is July 6-8, with street legals Friday, pack the track Saturday and points races Sunday.
