The Medicine Hat Mavericks strung together a third consecutive win in landslide fashion Thursday at Elks Field.

Michael Conn and Colton Wright blasted a pair of long balls to highlight an eight-run sixth inning en route to a comfortable 13-6 over the Brooks Bombers.

After starting the season with a pair of rainouts and an 0-2 slide, the Mavs rallied to back-to-back wins over the Okotoks Dawgs and Lethbridge Bulls before climbing above the .500 mark with Thursday’s blowout.

Conn put Medicine Hat on the board with an RBI single in the first, then three more came around in the third before Hat product Nolan Rattai pushed the lead to five with an RBI groundout in the fourth.

The Bombers answered back by scoring on an error in the fifth, but Medicine Hat’s bats came alive the following frame.

Michael Conn kicked things off with a home run, then Rattai followed it up with an RBI single, Zach Gray added an RBI double, Wright sent a three-run shot over the fence and Jaxson Hooge rounded things out with an RBI double to leave the Bombers trailing by a dozen.

The Bombers pressured for a way back into the game by putting a pair of runners on base during a two-out rally in the eighth, but Junior Pimentel managed to limit the damage to a single run off a Zachlehman single.

Brooks tried the comeback alive with four runs in the ninth, but Connor Green managed to shut the door and push Medicine Hat to 3-2 on the Western Major Baseball League season.

Mavericks starter Evan Sutta collected the win in his first start of the year after holding Brooks to one run on two hits through six innings with three strikeouts.

Pimentel kept the Bombers to a run on two hits through the next two innings.

Brandon Hillier took the loss for Brooks after allowing eight runs on seven hits through 5 1/3 inning —leaving the Bombers at 2-4.

The Mavericks return to Athletic Park tonight for Bark in the Park. Fans are welcome to bring their dogs to the game for a $5 entry fee with all proceeds going to the Medicine Hat SPCA.
